Eulamprus heatwolei (Yellow-bellied Water Skink)

Body colour is brown with numerous black flecks along the back and a ragged-edged, broad, lateral band. Belly and underside of limbs is often bright yellow or sometimes pale cream and a relatively short, pale anterior dorsolateral stripe (sometimes broken) extends from the eye to the front limbs. The front section of the ear-opening is black.

Total length 22 cm, with an average snout-vent length of 10 cm.

This species is generally found at higher altitudes within the Greater Sydney Region like the Upper Blue Mountains but is also occasionally reportedly found near the coast in some parts of Sydney. It is usually associated with water, where it can be seen basking on rocks or logs near the water's edge but is sometimes seen well away from water. Several individuals may be seen basking in areas with suitable habitat, particularly alongside creeks and other freshwater bodies.
